One Woman Wonders and Wanders

Winner of the Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition 2013, Wendy Constance developed her writing by studying creative non-fiction and poetry. Sometimes her writing weaves all three genres, influenced by her former career as a textile designer. Which also comes into play in some of her mixed-media art.
Whichever medium Wendy is working in, her main inspiration comes from her passion and concern for the natural world. Which she also enjoys taking photographs of during her many coastal and countryside wanderings. She is an active member of her local branch of Essex Wildlife Trust, joyfully wonders at nature’s many marvels: from bees on sunflowers in her garden to a magnificent stag beetle spotted during local woodland walk.

As a writer, poet, and artist Wendy combines all three skills with her passion for the environment and the natural world.

Wendy's bête noire is the plethora of plastic-based litter that despoils our planet. Particularly the vast amounts she has collected during beach walks – everything from cotton buds and cigarette stubs to swathes of polypropylene fishing net. Some of which showcased in a wall-hanging created as part of a 2018 community art workshop at Jaywick Martello Tower, led by Wendy. The start of her one woman mission to raise awareness about plastic beach litter.
